History of the American Chinchilla Rabbit

The American Chinchilla Rabbit is an American breed developed in the early 1920s . The Chinchilla rabbit was developed using Himalayans, Beverens and wild-coloured rabbits, and first shown in France in 1913. Chinchilla rabbits quickly became a very successful commercial breed throughout Europe, not just for the similarity of their fur to the pelt of a Chinchilla, but also because their coat matured much more quickly than other rabbit breeds. The Chinchilla quickly became a popular commercial breed.

History of the American Chinchilla Rabbit

Rabbit teeth never stop growing and the only thing that keeps their teeth a manageable size is a diet high in hay – this is why a 70 percent hay diet is crucial.

Hay is the most important part of your rabbit’s diet. Pellets should only make up a small amount of your rabbit’s diet. They are high calorie and low fiber which leads to obesity and overgrown teeth. Fresh vegetables keep your rabbit’s intestines well hydrated, which helps with overall digestion.

Rabbits have a sweet tooth and would probably love to eat a lot of fruit. However, because of the high sugar content, fruits should be fed only as treats. Without enough water, intestinal contents can become very dry and get stuck. There are several foods that you should never feed your rabbit, including chocolate, pasta, and yogurt.
